Position Overview

The Jordan’s Principle Intake and Emergency Support Worker is responsible for assisting the Jordan’s Principle Coordinators with reviewing and approving emergency social requests from the families related to utilities, rent, emergency accommodations, furniture, food, clothing and school supplies for eligible children and youth. Working within the policies of the Jordan’s Principle program, this position would be authorized to approve social requests and be provided funds to support families with these types of requests. They are also responsible for providing support to the Jordan’s Principle Coordinators by completing intake assessments, forms and other intake information. They will be expected to work in collaboration with the Jordan’s Principle Coordinators and existing community agencies.

 

Responsibilities

· Work with and support the Jordan’s Principle Coordinators;

· Serve as a contact person for the PBCN area for emergency social requests;

· Support families to access available supports in their community;

· Interview and verify eligibility of the child prior to approving funds;

· Confirm that the recommendation letter is appropriate for the requested service or support and in the best interests of the child;

· Manage funds provided through the program for emergency services/supports approved for families;

· Monitor and track cases, budgets and requests;

· Create awareness of the Jordan’s Principle Program through presentations, pamphlets, etc.;

· Compile monthly and yearly statistical and activity reports as required;

· Maintain strict confidentiality at all times;

· Work within the team concept to provide program support;

· Keep supervisor informed of problems and/or issues.

 

Qualifications

· Post-secondary education in a related field and/or other extensive human services experience;

· Experience in acting as an advocate for others;

· Experience in working with and/or for First Nations;

· Ability to speak/understand Cree (asset).

· Knowledge of the Jordon’s Principle goals, mandate and principles;

· Competent in the use of computers; including excel, power point, internet and word;

· Ability to work under stressful and/or high-charged situations;

· Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills;

· Highly organized with ability to plan, prioritize and coordinate multiple cases;

· Maintain strict confidentiality;

· Must pass a criminal records and vulnerable sector check;

· Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s License.
