JOB TITLE: Youth Worker-Land Based

STATUS: Full-time term to March 31, 2025 (may be extended)

LOCATION: Deschambault Lake

DEADLINE: April 5, 2024

 

Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Holistic Health Coordinator, the Youth Worker is responsible for providing individual and group support services with the purpose of developing land-based work plan that meets the needs of the youths within the communities. In collaboration with the Youth Mental Health Land Based Coordinator, the youth worker will undertake the planning, development and implementation of that work plan.

 

General Responsibilities

The Youth Worker-Land Based is responsible for carrying out the duties of the Jordan’s Principle (JP) Program by:

· Prepare regular monthly and statistical reports;

· Keep inventory of all land-based equipment and supplies.

· Assess the needs of the youth and plan programs and services which meet these needs;

· Assist with organizing and implementing planned activities for the youth and their families that would build stronger connections (i.e. camping trips, rabbit snaring, land-based survival skills);

· Facilitate cultural appropriate workshops, activities and presentations;

· Offer mental health supports in a land-based setting (safeTALK, ASIST);

· Refer at-risk youth to the appropriate health professional for follow up;

· Arrange for training sessions (boat safety, snowmobile safety, etc.)

· Maintain a positive role model for the youth.

 

Qualifications

§ Experience in working with youth;

§ Experience in land-based activities.

§ Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture and values;

§ Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects;

§ Demonstrated ability to work effectively with groups;

§ Strong computer skills;

§ Confidentiality;

§ Positive role model;

§ Ability to speak Cree an asset.

§ A valid Class 5 Saskatchewan driver’s license;

§ Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerability Sector Check

 

Salary & Benefits

Salary: As per Salary Grid (depending on Education & Experience)
